Being made redundant was one of the best things that ever happened to me. But did it feel like it at the time? Hell no!
It was stressful, definitely increased my alcohol consumption (that social club fridge had to be emptied!) and led to some sleepless nights. And these days, with technology and markets moving so quickly, many more people will go through this – and probably more than once in their working life.
I was lucky – I had a transferrable skillset and ended up in a lovely part of the country, in a new industry and with a better work life balance than I had in Corporate Wellie-world.
Redundancies get challenged in court, but I bet most often by ex-employees who have not felt looked after, appreciated or ready for life in a brave new world. What do you think we can all do to reduce this challenge risk?
