The Importance of Managerial Emotional Intelligence

06/11/2017

The Top of the South (namely, Nelson and Marlborough) is currently experiencing an increasingly tight market for finding talented employees. Engaging and motivating them is equally challenging.

Quite often we are finding clients who employ talented employees only to find them leaving less than a year later before they have added any real value to their bottom line.

So….how do you capture the “hearts and minds” of your employees so they remain loyal, motivated and productive in these labour market conditions where opportunities abound.

Well, extensive research tells us employees leave ‘managers’ not ‘companies’, and that these ‘managers’ are often lacking in the area of Emotional Intelligence. People with high Emotional Intelligence are great managers and fantastic sales people and will undoubtedly add value to your bottom line by engaging, motivating and influencing positively those around them. They understand their underlying personality, their emotional strengths and the things that might trip them up. And the great thing is that these skills can be learnt!

Here at Intepeople, we have accredited facilitators of the Genos 360 Leadership Emotional Intelligence Feedback Tool. We are working with managers and leaders across the top of the south to help them gain a deeper understanding of their Emotional Intelligence. This powerful tool offers incredible insights that get to the heart of leadership. It also offers development and learning tips to support managers in growing their Emotional Intelligence.

If you are:

  • Struggling to find talented employees.
  • Have employees that leave after a short time with your business, or an increased number of employees leaving.
  • Thinking about ways to develop, motivate and engage employees
  • Want to increase sales and business performance

Then we suggest you need start by identifying your own and your Managers’ levels of Emotional Intelligence. This will have a direct impact on your bottom line by engaging the people around them.
As proof Gallup has reported that leaders who use Emotional Intelligence to engage their people deliver significantly improved bottom line results:

  • 50% more likely to have lower turnover.
  • 56% more likely to have higher than average customer loyalty.
  • 38% more likely to have above average productivity.
  • 27% more likely to report higher profitability.
