CV’s are Still Super Important!
Gosh the pace of change is fast and between technological advances and the increasing role of social media in our day to day interactions it could be easy to think that CVs are not as important as they used to be.
I think that would be a mistake.
CV’s are still the first way that you can give a prospective employer a glimpse of you as a candidate and often your only platform to convince them that you are the very best fit for their role and organisation.
With that in mind I’ve quickly outlined some tips for people who are re-vamping their CV’s
Emily’s four C’s of CV preparation:
- Consider the Content
The content of your CV is really important so take the time to really think about what you want to convey. The skills and experience that you have as a candidate, how this is relevant for the role you are applying for, and examples that back these up.
- Keep It Clear and Concise
The reality is that the people sorting through the CV’s are pushed for time so make sure that your information is clear and concise. Try and keep it to less than three pages and remember that lots of CV’s are screened online so make sure that you’re formatting and font is screen friendly. Utilise every space on the page and ensure that your content is relevant, clearly laid out and easy to read.
- Check Check and Double Check
Your CV needs to be error free! This means check everything. If you can’t ensure that you have no errors in your CV, when you should have the time and motivation to make sure it is perfect, then prospective employers will have no faith that you will be able to do this as an employee.
It really is worth putting some effort into getting your CV in good shape and give you the very best shot at securing your dream role.
